Aryana Satrya is assistant professor at the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia. He earns his Ph.D. from School of Political Science, University of Queensland, Australia. His Ph.D. research examines the effectiveness of union strategy in the Indonesian services industry.
He is currently serving as Head of the Center for Social Security Studies (CSSS/ PKJS) Universitas Indonesia. He has managed the Laboratory of Management Studies.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree (honours) in Industrial Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Indonesia, and his Master's in Master of Management (finance) from Universitas Indonesia (UI).
His current research includes topics on migrant workers, employment of senior citizen, minimum wage, workers empowerment, partnership at workplace, freedom of association, market flexibility, economic health, tobacco control, pension schemes, and organisational culture.
His previous works have been published in several journals, including Tobacco Control, Tobacco Induced Diseases, Indian Journal of Industrial Relations, Employment Relations Records (Australia), Philippine Journal of Industrial Relations, the Analisis Laboral (Peru), International Journal of Business and Society, International Journal of Innovation Management, Industrial Law Reports and the Asian Profile, and some Indonesian accredited journals.
He has received several research grants, including from Erasmus Mundus, D.A.A.D. Germany, Hitachi Foundation, ASEAN University Network, Tanoto Foundation, ILO, Union Network International (UNI), Ministry of Research & Higher Degree, and Ministry of Manpower. The awards allowed him to conduct research at some institutions, such as, Vrije Universiteit Brussell (Belgium), Kassel University (Germany), Kyoto University (Japan), Jeonbuk University, and Korean Institute of South East Asian Studies (KISEAS).
His works with Prof Balakrishnan Parasuraman (Universiti Malaysia Sabah - UMS) have received some international awards on research innovation competitions, including Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals in Seoul, Geneve, and Kuala Lumpur.
He was the President of the Indonesian Industrial Relations Associations (AHII) and members of the International Labor and Employment Relations Association (ILERA), Latin America Labor Law and Social Protection Association (Iltras), International Employment Relations Association (IERA), the Asia Pacific Sociological Association (APSA), and had joined the Association of Industrial Relations of the Academics of Australia and New Zealand (AIRAANZ) and the Brisbane Labour History Association (BLHA). He also served as Vice Chairman of Jakarta Wage Council for 2 periods between 2009 and 2014.
He has involved in research and consultancy activities with some international and domestic institutions, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), The International Labour Organization (ILO), Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Social, Ministry of National Planning, Ministry of Foreign Affair, the Office of President, BPJS Kesehatan, Union Network International (UNI), Siam Cement Group, Telkom Indonesia, Angkasa Pura II, and Indosat.
He has extensive professional experience in marketing and business development area at a telecommunications company. He was also a researcher at a leading union federation in Indonesia, and became a member of trade unions, both in Indonesia and Australia.
